Sainsbury’s £18 eGift Card scheme closes for registration at 11:59pm on Monday 9 November 2026. It is for qualifying NHS Healthy Start customers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. You must have used your Healthy Start Mastercard and Nectar card together in the same Sainsbury’s transaction between 20 October 2025 and 20 October 2026 inclusive. Use the official offer page to check the conditions and reach the registration form.
Eligible customers can receive up to six weekly £3 eGift Cards by email, starting on 18 November. This is a retailer promotion, separate from your NHS card balance. Registering does not by itself establish acceptance. If you have already registered, the next step is to keep your confirmation and check the registered inbox around the announced issue date.
Reviewed on 8 November 2026. This guide uses the published campaign terms, not access to an applicant’s account. Horus Valley has not submitted an application, confirmed anyone’s eligibility or tested a redemption. Always check the retailer’s current terms before acting.
What should you do now?
| Your stage | What to check | Your next step |
|---|---|---|
| Not registered | The historical purchase requirement and the 9 November deadline | Read the eligibility checklist below and use the link from the retailer’s official page. |
| Registered and waiting | Your confirmation and the inbox you supplied | Keep a private record; the first issue date is 18 November, not the day you register. |
| Card received | The issue date, expiry and instructions on that card | Plan an eligible shop and record redemption; do not assume that opening the email restarts validity. |
Not registered yet
Start with the purchase you already made, rather than making a new shop to try to qualify. Find any receipt or account record you already hold and compare it with the fixed qualifying dates. If you cannot establish whether both cards were used in the same transaction, explain that uncertainty to the offer team. Do not replace missing information with guessed card details.
Registered and waiting
Separate two questions: did you submit the registration, and have you received a spending card? A saved application confirmation is useful evidence of the first step, but it is not a voucher and does not prove that the retailer’s transaction checks are complete. Keep both kinds of message in the same private folder so that you can refer to the right one later.
The offer at a glance

| Registration closes | 11:59pm, 9 November 2026 |
| First card | 18 November 2026 |
| Last cards issued | By 23 December 2026 |
| Spending conditions | £3 minimum spend; use each card within seven days of issue to receive another the following week |
Do you qualify? A 30-second check before opening the form
- Location: You are a Healthy Start customer in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. Scotland has a separate Best Start Foods scheme.
- Two cards: You have a Healthy Start Mastercard and a Nectar card.
- Past shop: You used both cards in a single Sainsbury’s transaction dated 20 October 2025 to 20 October 2026 inclusive. Using them on separate visits does not meet the published condition.
- Registration: Submit the official form by 11:59pm on 9 November 2026, supplying the requested name, email address and last 11 Nectar card digits.
- Weekly use: If accepted, spend at least £3 on permitted items with each voucher within its seven-day validity period to remain eligible for the next week.
If any historical-purchase requirement is missing, registering or shopping again now cannot make an out-of-period transaction qualify. Only Sainsbury’s can make the final decision against its transaction records. The retailer says it is using a historical test because this is its first digital trial, and it may explore wider access in future; no expansion or new application round has been announced in these terms.
Eligibility: the transaction history is the decisive check
A Healthy Start Mastercard and a Nectar card are necessary, but possessing both today does not establish that you qualify. Sainsbury’s checks previous transaction data. The relevant question is whether both cards were used together on one qualifying shop during the fixed dates in the offer.
That fixed period is more useful than the shorthand “in the past 12 months”. Reading the article later does not move the cut-off forward. A purchase on 21 October 2026 falls outside the published window even if it took place before you registered.
Examples that separate similar-looking situations
| Your shopping history | How to read the rule | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| Both cards used in one Sainsbury’s transaction in July 2026 | The date and same-transaction conditions appear satisfied | Register accurately and let Sainsbury’s verify the record |
| Healthy Start used in one transaction; Nectar used in another that day | Same day does not mean same transaction | Check whether another qualifying joint transaction exists |
| Both cards first used together on 20 October 2026 | The closing date is included | Use the official registration process |
| Both cards first used together on 21 October 2026 | The purchase is beyond the historical window | Ask the promoter if uncertain; do not spend again expecting to create eligibility |
| Nectar member with no Healthy Start Mastercard | Nectar membership alone is insufficient | Check the separate government scheme if relevant |
If your Nectar card has been replaced, or you cannot remember which card you used, the public summary does not establish how Sainsbury’s will match that situation. Keep any existing receipt or account record and ask the promoter. Do not guess a different person’s card number or assume a newly registered card inherits the necessary history.
Registration: prepare four details and use the official route
The retailer’s published instructions list your first name, last name, email address and the last 11 digits of your Nectar card number. The Nectar digits identify a loyalty account for checking the offer; they are not a request for your Healthy Start payment-card PIN.
- Open the official offer information and read the eligibility conditions.
- Follow its link to the Healthy Start promotion registration form. The Argos Rewards address is linked by Sainsbury’s; a similar-looking address in an unsolicited message is not equivalent.
- Enter the requested details carefully. Choose an email inbox you can continue checking throughout the campaign.
- Compare the Nectar digits with your own card before submitting, and check the email address for a typing error.
- Submit before the deadline and keep any confirmation or reference that the page provides. Registration is still subject to the retailer’s checks.
There is no reason to buy an ordinary gift card to apply. Nor should you pay a third party to submit the form. Someone helping a family member can read the instructions with them, while the customer enters their own details and retains control of the inbox.
Official sign-up link and a safe way to recognise it
Sainsbury’s corporate page links directly to the official Healthy Start registration form, hosted under sainsburyshealthystart.argosrewards.co.uk. That address can look unfamiliar because it is not sainsburys.co.uk; verify it by opening the link from the retailer’s own FAQ rather than trusting a screenshot or a social-media message. Horus Valley did not submit a form or verify a successful submission.
If the form does not open or details need correcting
Return to the corporate offer page and follow its current registration link. A failed page load on one device does not establish that registration has closed. If the problem persists, use the offer’s contact address rather than an unofficial mirror or repeated submissions with different details.
For a mistyped email address, changed Nectar card or uncertain submission, the published information does not promise a particular self-service correction process or response time. Contact nutrition.queries@sainsburys.co.uk, explain what happened and keep a record of when you first tried to register. A support request should not be treated as an extension of the deadline.
Timing checked on 8 November 2026: the published registration deadline is 9 November. If you have registered, no gift-card email before the announced 18 November start date is, by itself, evidence of rejection. Do not assume a failed page load extends registration; contact the offer team about an unresolved problem.
Delivery dates and the seven-day condition
Sainsbury’s announcement of 20 October 2026 describes weekly emailed cards from 18 November. Its detailed terms give a final issue date of 23 December. Do not expect all £18 in one email or assume a card is missing immediately after registration.
| Stage | Timing | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Register | By 9 November, 11:59pm | Keep the confirmation and check your details |
| First card | 18 November | Read its issue date, spending instructions and expiry |
| Following weeks | Around 25 November, 2 December, 9 December and 16 December if issued at weekly intervals | Check the registered inbox and use each card promptly |
| Final issue | By 23 December | Use the validity printed on the actual card |
The seven-day rule affects more than an individual voucher’s usefulness. The terms link using each card within seven days of issue to receiving another card the following week. Opening an email late should not be assumed to restart that period.
Set a reminder when a card arrives, with a second reminder before its stated expiry. Keep the checkout receipt or confirmation after using it. If redemption fails close to expiry, contact the retailer promptly; this guide cannot promise an extension, replacement or automatic catch-up payment.
The published wording also does not explain every possible outcome after a missed week. It would be too strong to say that every remaining card is definitely cancelled, or that the following one will definitely arrive. Ask Sainsbury’s about the actual account rather than budgeting for an unconfirmed payment.
A private record for each card
Use a note on your own device to separate an email-delivery problem from a spending problem. Copy dates from the card itself instead of calculating an expiry from when you happened to read it. The blank worksheet below is a planning aid; it contains no customer data and does not determine entitlement.
| Record | What to write down |
|---|---|
| Registration | Date submitted, confirmation saved and inbox used; keep details private. |
| Card received | Issue date and the expiry actually printed in the message or card. |
| Planned use | Intended shopping date and eligible items you already need. |
| Redemption | Date used and where you kept the receipt or checkout confirmation. |
| Problem, if any | Exact error, date and support reference; exclude redeemable codes from public screenshots. |
If the next card does not arrive, the record gives you a precise question for support: which week is affected, whether the previous card was used, and what the receipt shows. It cannot prove why an email was not issued, and it should not be used to claim an automatic replacement. Check the terms and ask the promoter about your own case.
Eligible food and the exclusions worth checking
The promotion supports fruit, vegetables, beans and pulses, including qualifying fresh, frozen, tinned and dried products. The detailed offer page contains specific exclusions. Treat the ingredients and preparation as relevant, rather than assuming anything sold in a produce aisle qualifies.
| Category | What to check before relying on the card |
|---|---|
| Fruit, vegetables and pulses | Choose qualifying products in the permitted fresh, frozen, tinned or dried categories |
| Excluded starchy foods | Plantain, cassava, yams and potatoes are named exclusions |
| Excluded drinks and other items | Smoothies, fruit juice and coconut are excluded; baked beans are also specifically excluded |
| Prepared or mixed products | Check restrictions on added sugar, dressed salads and several non-vegetable ingredients; examples include vegetable burgers, cauliflower cheese and breaded mushrooms |
A plain pulse and a prepared bean product may be treated differently. Similarly, the name “vegetable burger” does not make the product equivalent to plain vegetables. For a borderline item, check the current terms or ask before paying. This table is a category check, not a live list of approved product codes.
Milk and infant formula belong to the wider Healthy Start discussion, but should not be assumed eligible for this particular supermarket top-up. Keep the retailer promotion’s food rules separate from the government card’s permitted purchases.
Using the card in store and online
The offer permits participating Sainsbury’s stores and online shopping. The campaign specifies a minimum spend of £3. It also requires an online delivery to take place within the card’s stated dates, with delivery charges potentially applying.
That makes the delivery date important. Placing an order before expiry is not necessarily enough if delivery falls outside the validity period. Check the slot, the eligible items and the actual card instructions before completing the order.
Sainsbury’s general eGift Card help describes standard cards, including displaying or printing a card for in-store use and online redemption arrangements. Use it for general context only. A standard gift card’s longer expiry or broader shopping rules do not override this campaign’s restrictions.
Follow the redemption instructions supplied with your promotional card. Do not assume that converting or adding a balance online creates extra time, or that a normal groceries account’s order minimum is the same as the campaign’s £3 spending threshold. Check the current grocery checkout conditions separately.
At the till, keep the card available, check that the discount has been applied and retain the receipt. A screenshot containing a redeemable barcode or code can expose the voucher’s value, so do not post it in a public comment when asking for help.
Two checkout examples that stop expensive mistakes
| Example basket or order | What the published terms mean |
|---|---|
| £2.40 of qualifying vegetables | Below the £3 minimum spend. Do not expect the promotional eGift Card to be accepted. |
| £4.20 of qualifying fruit and pulses | Meets the minimum qualifying-spend example; if the voucher applies, £3 could contribute and £1.20 remains to be paid. |
| Online order placed before expiry, delivered after voucher validity ends | Not safely within the published online-delivery condition; choose a delivery slot inside the dates on the card. |
| A voucher received but not redeemed within seven days | The published condition for the next week’s eGift Card has not been met. Contact the retailer for your particular case. |
The minimum spend is a condition when using each £3 promotional eGift Card; it is not a promise that normal Sainsbury’s online delivery charges disappear, or that every item in a mixed basket will qualify. Check product exclusions and the total at checkout.
Three different cards, three different sets of rules
| Instrument | Purpose | Where to check the rules |
|---|---|---|
| NHS Healthy Start Mastercard | Government support for eligible food and milk purchases | NHS Healthy Start guidance and the government application route |
| 2026 Sainsbury’s promotional eGift Card | A weekly £3 retailer contribution for qualifying customers | The campaign terms and each emailed card |
| Ordinary purchased Sainsbury’s gift card | A separate gift-card product | The standard gift-card terms attached to that product |
GOV.UK’s Healthy Start page provides the official route to the underlying support scheme. If you have not enrolled, check that scheme on its own merits. A new NHS application does not retrospectively create the supermarket transaction history required for this trial.
Missing this promotion does not by itself cancel NHS entitlement. Conversely, receiving NHS support does not guarantee acceptance into the retailer offer. For Scotland, Best Start Foods guidance explains the separate Scottish programme; a Scottish card should not be assumed interchangeable with the one required here.
A missing or rejected card: identify the stage before acting
There are four different problems to distinguish: registration was not completed, eligibility has not been confirmed, an expected email cannot be found, or a received card will not redeem. Checking the relevant stage saves you repeating an application when the actual problem is at checkout.
| Situation | First check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| No card during October or early November | The published first issue date is 18 November | Check registration details; do not treat pre-launch silence as a failed payment |
| No expected email after the relevant issue date | Registered address, spam, junk and filtered folders | Search the correct inbox, then contact the offer team if unresolved |
| One message missing but other emails arrive | Filters or a sender-specific delivery issue | Investigate that message without turning off mailbox security |
| Card rejected at checkout | Issue and expiry dates, eligible products and the £3 minimum | Keep the error and receipt; ask the retailer to investigate |
| Online order fails | Delivery slot within validity and the card’s redemption instructions | Check campaign and grocery-order conditions separately |
| Next weekly card missing | Whether the previous card was used within seven days | Ask about that specific week rather than assuming all £18 is guaranteed |
If your registered Gmail account is inaccessible, see our guide to recovering Gmail without the old phone number. If you can sign in but the account reports a full quota, our Google storage troubleshooting guide explains how to investigate it without blindly deleting important messages. Neither action substitutes for contacting the promoter about an expired voucher.
What to include in a support request
Use the contact address published in the offer terms. State whether the issue concerns registration, eligibility, delivery or redemption. Include the registration date, any reference you were given, the affected week and the exact error wording. Keep account and voucher secrets out of a public screenshot.
Ask a specific question, such as whether the registration address can be corrected or whether a rejected transaction was within the permitted dates. That is more useful than simply reporting “my £18 has not arrived”, because the maximum is made up of separate weekly cards.
A useful email when registration or delivery fails
Send questions to nutrition.queries@sainsburys.co.uk, the address published in Sainsbury’s offer terms. For example: “I registered for the Healthy Start eGift Card trial on [date] using the email address I control. I have [registration issue / no email after the stated issue date / a redemption error]. Could you confirm the correct next step and which information you need to investigate?” Do not send your NHS card PIN, full payment-card details or a redeemable gift-card code in an unsolicited message.
The actual saving: three worked examples
The following figures are arithmetic illustrations, not current shelf prices, delivery quotes or evidence that particular products have been approved.
- Shopping you already planned: a qualifying basket costing £4.20 would leave £1.20 to pay after a £3 card, if it is accepted against that basket.
- A special trip: if an extra journey costs £4 solely to redeem a £3 card, travel exceeds the card’s value by £1. Combining it with an existing shopping trip may make more sense.
- An extra delivery: if a separate order attracts a £4.50 charge, a £3 promotional saving alone leaves that trip £1.50 worse before other differences. Use your real checkout fee for the comparison.
Four successfully redeemed £3 cards represent £12 of used value; six represent £18. This calculation does not establish how many cards someone will receive after a missed week. Count what was actually issued and redeemed, and keep uncertain future cards out of a tight household budget.
Choose food you will use, and compare the shelf or checkout price rather than a hypothetical shopping list. Frozen or dried options can help when fresh food might spoil, provided the product meets the campaign rules. Buying unnecessary items to reach a threshold can reduce the practical benefit.
Safe registration and a final personal checklist
The offer is published on Sainsbury’s corporate website. That verifies the promotion, not every social-media link using its name. Navigate from the official page and distinguish the requested Nectar digits from a banking password, Healthy Start PIN or sign-in code.
A promotional eGift Card may have its own redemption credentials. Enter them only where the official card instructions require them; never send a redeemable code to someone offering to “unlock” the payment. Registration details and spending credentials serve different purposes.
- Confirm the historical same-transaction purchase before relying on eligibility.
- Check the name, email and Nectar digits before submitting.
- Keep the registration confirmation privately.
- Read each weekly card’s actual dates and product conditions.
- Record a successful redemption and raise a problem promptly.
